Get in touch to learn how Preparedness can help policymakers, institutions and organisations build stronger, more resilient societies.

Preparedness asks a fundamental question for governments, institutions and organisations: how can societies become more resilient in the face of sudden or shock events in our near term future? In the fields of public health, the environment, our economy and in terms of national security, how do citizens understand and experience risk, and what are they personally prepared for? What does this mean for the agility of government in the event of crisis, and for policy makers?

Verian’s Institute of Public Impact has released a new programme of research exploring how citizens perceive national risks, how ready they believe their countries are to respond, and what role governments, institutions and citizens themselves should play in building resilience. Drawing on large-scale citizen insight across the UK, Germany, France and Australia, our work examines attitudes towards a range of potential crises, from military conflict to global pandemics and critically, the role of the media landscape, trusted messengers, and key influencers in times of stability and crisis. And, with the upcoming release of the Verian Preparedness Index, this work will provide policy makers with prescient insights and multilateral comparisons over time.

Policymakers and institutions have an opportunity: to design national resilience policies in a systemic and interconnected way, connecting national security with the opportunity to rebuild trust, support communities, strengthen democratic resilience and generate benefits that citizens experience in their everyday lives.

Join our team at upcoming events across Europe and Australia, starting in Paris on 6 October 2026.
