The fieldwork phase of the study “Security and Crime in Germany” (SKiD) began in April. The nationwide survey is being conducted by Verian on behalf of the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) in cooperation with state police forces.
The goal of the study is to obtain a comprehensive and scientifically sound picture of the security situation in Germany. Among other things, the study focuses on the population’s sense of safety, experiences with crime, reporting behavior, and perceptions of police work. As a so-called “dark figure” study, SKiD complements police crime statistics by also recording crimes that were not reported to the police.
For the current survey wave, randomly selected individuals aged 16 and older are invited to participate. The survey can be completed either online or in writing. Participation is voluntary; all information is treated as strictly confidential and evaluated exclusively on an anonymous basis.
The field phase marks a key milestone in the project. It will be followed by the processing and analysis of the collected data. The results can serve as an evidence-based foundation for security policy decisions aimed at preventing crime.
